diane cordero de noriega

I have been an artist all my life, with a 40 year career in education in between. I had forgotten how long I have been painting until just the other day I found photographs of my art from my early 20’s. In those days I worked only in oil and I was doing a lot of still life. I surprised myself that after all these years I was pleased with what I saw. I had another artistic spurt the year before I went back into graduate school. I painted landscapes of the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, where I was living at the time. Some of those are still hanging in my home.
I recently retired from University administration and and finally moved full time to Sandy. Determined to get back to my art, I attended a couple of weekend workshops in Carmel Valley using a totally different style and medium. I started doing abstract landscapes and seascapes using liquid acrylics. It was a liberating experience and I have been experimenting ever since.
Another new experience was doing monotype printing for the first time in my life. Working in the studio of a dear friend I found the discovery and surprise of producing a one of a kind print. The surprise is that from the plate to the press, you never know quite what the finished product is going to look like. Another liberating experience. My art is evolving and I want to share that evolution with you as artists and friends.
This website is under construction. It will focus on what I am currently undertaking during this new stage of my life. I am and always will be an educator, but I am also an artist. My art is evolving and I hope to share that evolution as it progresses.
